Augere begins operations in Bangladesh

Augere formally inaugurated its presence in Bangladesh and introduced Augere Wireless Broadband Bangladesh Ltd at an event on 21-07-2009 at the Westin, Dhaka.

Chief Guest, Honourable Finance Minister Abul Mal Abdul Muhit welcomed Augere to Bangladesh at the ceremony. Honorable Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Rajiuddin Ahmed Raju and the Honorable Minister of Information and Cultural Affairs, Abul Kalam Azad, were also present as special guests.

Augere Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Sanjiv Ahuja gave an opening speech, introducing Augere. “It has only been a few months since Augere successfully bid for a WiMax licence in this vibrant and dynamic country and I am delighted to say that today our pilot network is operational in select areas of Dhaka. The real internet experience is here,” he said. Augere Bangladesh is poised to fulfil the demand for internet connection using WiMax technology. Augere believes its understanding of the market and technology will help it play a positive supporting part in realising the vision of Digital Bangladesh.

Augere is going to operate their WiMax service under “QUBEE” as a brand name here in Bangladesh. “QUBEE” is also currently operated in Pakistan and by the end of this year it will be available to some major zones of Dhaka City, Capital of Bangladesh.

Another WiMax operator “BanglaLion” (which were supposed to started their operation in last July 2009) is yet to be started their operation. Till now there is no official announcement.
